Introduction

Existing faculty at CIIT Islamabad in the group of High Energy Physics & Cosmology (HEP&C) and Ultra Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions (URHIC) consists of four foreign professors, two associate professors, one assistant professor, one advisor and one lecturer. The group is working on problems involving R-parity violation phenomenology in Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), Non-Standard Electroweak interactions and their implication in Neutrino Physics, CP-violation, CKM-matrix elements, Cosmological Inflation and Recent Inflationary Models, Cosmological Constant Primordial Nucleosynthesis, Finite Temperature Field Theory, Relativistic Nuclear-Nuclear collisions and Dark Energy. An important component of this group is working experimental problems of Ultra Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions (URHIC) affiliated with the Alice of CERN.

Two Ph.D theses have already successfully culminated in the Theory group. At least 12 M.S (Physics) scholars have successfully completed their research theses in (HEP&C). The Ultra Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions (URHIC) involves experimental study dealing with lead on lead collisions at Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN at the centre of mass energies of 7 TeV. CIIT group deals with computer software developed at Joint Institute of Nuclear Research (JINR) Dubna for CERN and for Physics analysis involved at the ALICE detector. This is a unique research activity in collaboration with ALICE/LHC at CERN is first of its kind in Pakistan. CIIT has recently joined the LHC as council member which is a vital window for opportunities of research and training for scientists and engineers at the best and fastest accelerator and detected labs in the world. Papers published in the group are at least 8-10 in the international journals of repute. Six PhD?s, seven MS and two BS students are doing research with this group.

Mahnaz Qader Haseeb

Dr. Mahnaz Haseeb received her PhD (1993) on the topic of Quantum Field Theory at Finite Temperature. Her main area of research includes; finite temperature and density effects in Quantum Field Theory and their applications to early universe and astrophysics, ultra-relativistic nuclear-nuclear collisions, quark-gluon plasma. Before joining COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad in 2002, she served as Assistant Professor and Head of Department of Physics at Islamabad Campuses of Hamdard University and University of Lahore.

Muhammad Moosa

Mr. Muhammad Moosa did his MS in High Energy Physics (2010) from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad. His research spans problems in cosmology and astroparticle physics. In cosmology, his work focuses on issues at the interface between fundamental physics (particle physics), general relativity and astrophysics. The mechanisms for driving inflationary expansion in the early universe, the connection between inflation and elementary particles, implications of finite temperature field theory to early universe phenomenon, and the observational consequences of inflation are subjects of his longstanding interest. He is also involved in teaching undergraduate courses at his department since June, 2007. more details..



Mais Suleymanov

Prof. Dr. Mais Suleymanov has got two academic degrees: PhD (1980) and Dr. Sc. (2000) from Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna, Russia) in the field of Nuclear Physics and High Energy Physics. His main area of research includes: nucleus-nucleus collisions at high energies; ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions, Quark-Gluon Plasma Physics; Physics of the cosmic rays. Before joining COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad as HEC Foreign Faculty Professor, he worked in the JINR, Dubna, Russia as a Leading Researcher. He is author of 165 published research papers. He is supervising on 3 PhD students. One of his PhD students has got PhD degree in 2011 and 5 MS students got MS degrees during 2007-2011. He is a member of: ALICE (CERN, Switzerland), NICO (JINR, Russia) and PANDA (GSI, Germany) Collaborations.
